Sulley Muntari has completed his move to Inter Milan from Portsmouth and has signed a four-year deal with the Italian champions. The Ghana international had firmly established himself as a key member of Harry Redknapp’s side following his $14 million move from Udinese last summer and helped the Fratton Park side lift the FA Cup in May. He also scored five goals in 33 appearances.
Muntari emerged as a target of new Inter boss Jose Mourinho last week and has now sealed his prompt return to Serie A for an undisclosed fee, though various media reports estimate a $28 million fee has been agreed between the two clubs.
As a 16-year-old, Muntari was a target for Manchester United, but eventually signed for Udinese in 2001, making his debut the following year.
His form with the Bianconeri attracted the interest of a number of clubs, with several top Italian clubs including Inter, Roma, and AC Milan reported to have been following his progress last summer. However, Muntari chose Portsmouth, albeit for a season.
Pompey boss Harry Redknapp said: “I’m very disappointed to let him go. He’s a terrific player and was a great signing for us. He’s a really nice lad as well. He can’t be a bad player – Inter don’t buy bad players. He helped us achieve what we did last year.”
